10 July @ 3pm: Karen Lane – vocal workshop

Karen Lane is a professional singer and contemporary vocal coach.

She initially trained as a Speech and Language Therapist, in Perth, Australia, and now uses advanced knowledge of vocal pedagogy in her method and practice of teaching.

In addition to the performance that evening Karen is running a vocal workshop during the afternoon for 8 solo singers from 1500.

In readiness for the workshop, each singer needs to prepare a jazz standard solo -to be performed from memory.

Her band will join the workshop for the last hour to allow the singers to perform with the band.

Her singing career began in Sydney as a soul funk stylist. Later she developed an interest in jazz learning repertoire through performance residencies. On arriving in London in 1999, she focused her energies on jazz singing and established herself as a respected recording artist. In particular her debut “Once In a Lifetime” release in 2002 garnered the attention and positive reviews of the International jazz press and radio.

Karen has recorded and self-produced 6 albums to critical acclaim and also a series of 3 vocal exercise practise tracks called Singsing. She is an accomplished songwriter and has a love of Brazilian music.
