11 December On This Dark Night: Songs for the Season with Suthering

Suthering (Julu Irvine and Heg Brignall) are a fearless, queer duo whose emotionally-charged songwriting tackles politics, mental health, feminism and LGBTQ+ rights with warmth, humour, and unshakable honesty. 

Following years of extensive touring, sold-out headline shows and appearances at major UK festivals, Suthering have earned a reputation as one of the most compelling live acts on the contemporary folk scene. Their performances are built around soaring vocal harmonies, breathtaking moments of a cappella, and an intimate blend of piano, fingerstyle guitar, whistles and flutes that can captivate a festival crowd as effortlessly as they can hold a room in pin-drop silence.

Their 2024 album Leave A Light On, produced by Sean Lakeman, marked a bold evolution in sound, weaving pop and indie influences into their folk roots. Hailed by the national press as “absolutely spellbinding”, the record combines deeply personal songwriting with modern protest. Lead single Maggie, inspired by the overturning of Roe v. Wade, is a stirring anthem for bodily autonomy and social justice.

Beyond the stage, Julu and Heg are the founders of Tavistock Pride, extending their commitment to equality far beyond their music by creating spaces that celebrate and support LGBTQ+ communities and other marginalised voices.
