17 October: Ocean Conservation at The National Marine Aquarium with Marcus Williams @ 1930

Did you see Secrets of the Aquarium on BBC TV? Then you will have seen Marcus Williams, Curator of National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth.

Calstock Arts are thrilled he is coming to talk to us about ocean conservation, the National Marine Aquarium and his role as the curator at the largest public aquarium in the UK. Marcus will also focus on the importation of an olive ridley turtle that was featured in the Secrets of the Aquarium series.

Marcus Williams is the Curator of the National Marine Aquarium which is the largest public aquarium in the UK. As an aquarium it is unique because it is part of the Ocean Conservation Trust, a charity that focusses on connecting people with the Ocean. His relationship with the National Marine Aquarium started in 1999, a year after it opened, when he completed a work experience placement and they have struggled to get rid of him since!

Marcus was born in Plymouth and grew up in Tamar Valley so he’s very proud of the part he plays in putting Plymouth on the international map!
