15 October: The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay (film) @ 1930

“The Lost Boys of Carbis Bay” is a documentary about a group of Cornish mine explorers whose underground adventures reveal themes of self-discovery, camaraderie, and men’s mental health.

The documentary follows the Carbis Bay Crew, a group of men who have spent over 30 years exploring Cornwall’s forgotten mines. Their activities involve descending deep mine shafts, wading through chest-deep water, and navigating tight, dangerous tunnels. While the explorations appear adrenaline-fueled, they serve as a lifeline and a form of catharsis, allowing the men to release stress and reset from everyday pressures.

Directed by Dan Simpkins and edited by Angus Breton, the documentary was filmed over two years and captures both the physical challenges of mine exploration and the personal stories of the crew. It has been recognized for its emotional depth, winning Best Adventure and Exploration Film at the Kendal Mountain Festival 2025
