DESCRIPTION:Zephyr is a short film and EP about growing up and facing uncertainty. \nFollowing the journey of a young boy into old age\, this 30 minute visual poem is about finding balance – a dynamic exploration into the unconscious processes that shape our everyday lives. From the playfulness of childhood to the complexities of adult life\, we join the film as a mediator between intellect and intuition\, movement and stillness\, light and dark. \nIn their debut project Director Jack Tierney and Composer Finnegan Tui fuse place\, sound\, music and movement\, to create a hauntingly atmospheric and evocative experience. \n\nProduced by Abbey Valentina\, a 21 year old film producer who grew up in Calstock. \nAbbey will be at the screening with Finnegan who will play some of his music live and then there will be a questions and answers session for everyone to learn more about the film and its background. \nThis project started developing way back in 2020 when Finnegan Tui began writing his debut EP and Jack Tierney started writing the script that melded the visual and audible worlds together. \nA kickstarter was launched to help fund this ambitious music film \nproject: http://kck.st/37hyIz1 \nIt has been named a featured project on kickstarters website. \nThey have been lucky enough to have been supported during this project by: \n– Video Europe \n– Panavision \n– YHA \n– Film Co.tv

DESCRIPTION:Nancy Kerr and James Fagan are one of the best-known and most experienced folk duos on the British circuit today. Outstanding musicianship\, a lifelong grounding in traditional singing and instrumental playing\, acclaimed original compositions but most noticeably a visceral chemistry between these two make Kerr and Fagan a perennial favourite at festivals\, venues and clubs across the country. \nThey met in December 1995\, and formed the duo and life partnership that has become the backbone of their professional career in music ever since. \nThey won the inaugural Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2000\, and were also the first ever recipients of the “Best Duo” Award\, which they won in 2003\, and again in 2011. DESCRIPTION:https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/c-fylm/t-lnknydnA 1988 American comedy-drama directed by Robert Redford from the screenplay written by John Nichols and David S Ward\, based on Nichols’ novel of the same name. \nFilmed on location in Mexico\, it is set in the fictional rural town of Milagro\, with a predominantly Hispanic/Catholic community of 426 who are largely interrelated. \nThe film tells of one man’s struggle as he defends his small beanfield and his community against a much larger business and state political interests. \nNearly 500 residents of the agricultural community of Milagro in the mountains of northern New Mexico face a crisis when politicians and business interests make a backroom deal to usurp the town’s water in order to pave the way for a land buy-out. Due to the new laws\, Joe Mondragon is unable to make a living farming because he is not allowed to divert water from an irrigation ditch that runs past his property. \nFrustrated\, and unable to find work\, Joe visits his father’s field. He happens upon a tag that reads “prohibited” covering a valve on the irrigation ditch. He kicks the valve\, unintentionally breaking it\, allowing water to flood his fields. He decides against repairing the valve and instead decides to plant beans in the field. This leads to a confrontation with powerful state interests\, including a hired gun brought in from out of town. \nAn escalation of events follows\, leading to a final showdown between law enforcement and the citizens of Milagro.

DESCRIPTION:Steve is a multi-award-winning singer-songwriter/musician and founder member of folk/acoustic roots trail-blazers ‘Show of Hands’ described by Peter Gabriel as ‘one of the great English bands’. A constant throughout Steve’s work is his ability to root his songs in time and place\, notably the West Country where he was raised. \nInformed by a love of narrative and English traditional folk music\, Knightley writes historically accurate songs that resonate with contemporary meaning. He has an extraordinary ability to bring the past vividly\, smack bang into the present. It’s a gift that fuels his reputation as an ‘issues’ writer. The seminal ‘Country Life’ earned him the title ‘the gravel voiced spokesman of the rural poor’ and his anti-banking rant ‘Arrogance\, Ignorance and Greed’ picked up the gong for ‘Best Song’ at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. \nSteve has a degree in History and Politics and in 2015 he was presented with an Honorary Doctorate from Plymouth University for his services to geography and music. Steve is also Patron of the Royal Albert Memorial Museum in Exeter and last year he was awarded the title of Honorary Rifleman by the 6th Battalion the Rifles Regiment.

DESCRIPTION:It’s difficult to find a musical genre that would fully describe The Countrymen but ‘Cornish Folk Rock Harmony’ is reasonably close. \nFive seasoned musicians with tight four-part harmony vocals and a token Cornishman. With a relaxed and light-hearted presentation style they take the audience on a journey through the history and culture of Cornwall\, featuring their own arrangements of traditional and contemporary songs\, as well as an increasing repertoire of original material. Interspersed with the occasional pop cover to lighten the mood when required\, there is no mistaking that to a man\, they love their county with a passion. \nThey’re well known for performing at some of the best festivals in the south west\, including Falmouth International Sea Shanty Festival\, Bridport Folk Festival\, Rock Oyster Festival\, Looe Saves The Day\, Little Orchard Cider Festival\, Pandafest\, Falmouth Oyster Festival and Falmouth Week. \nThe boys are looking forward to another warm Calstock welcome and we’re looking forward to having them. They’ll be performing many of the songs from their new album (if it exists by then)!

DESCRIPTION:Cornwall’s Climate Stories is a series of three\, 30 minute documentaries looking at different aspects of climate change around Cornwall – and the creative ways in which local people are rising to the challenges it will bring. \nLiving on the Edge is directed by Calstock’s own Bryony Stokes and features fellow Calstock resident Emma Hazeldine. \nThe film follows Emma\, a passionate ultra-runner\, as she travels around the Cornish coast path\, witnessing the ever-increasing impacts of coastal erosion whilst learning about how Cornwall’s coastal communities are preparing for the future as sea levels rise. \nThis will be a preview screening followed by a Q&A with Bryony\, Emma and others involved in the making of the film.\nThe first two films in the series will be screened before the preview and Q&A. \nUnder The Surface\, is presented by beach cleaner Claire Wallerstein\, who discovers how climate change is impacting Cornwall’s marine environment – and how important the sea could be in protecting us from the worst impacts of the climate emergency. \nPlenty More Fish?\, follows local fisherman Ben Church as he explores how climate change is impacting Cornwall’s fishing industry\, and what we can all do to help.

DESCRIPTION:A celebration of the centenary of Humphrey Lyttelton’s birth\, showcasing his wonderful life\, times and music. Created by jazz trumpeter and life-long fan\, Chris Hodgkins\, the tour will highlight how Humphrey Lyttelton led the way for the jazz revival of the late 1940s and 50s\, bringing jazz to the mainstream with the first UK jazz record to reach the Top20\, Bad Penny Blues. \nAffectionately known as “Humph”\, he was of course just as well-known for his broadcasting work\, as the host of BBC Radio 2’s The Best of Jazz and BBC Radio 4’s ‘I’m Sorry I Haven’t A Clue’. \nTo celebrate Humph’s life and heritage\, Chris Hodgkins\, himself a stalwart of the British jazz scene\, has put together an impressive ten-piece band featuring top UK and US musicians. \nThe band features Chris Hodgkins – trumpet\, Henry Lowther – trumpet\,\nCharlotte Glasson – sax\, Diane McLoughlin – sax\, Mark Bassey – trombone\nAlison Rayner – double bass\, Cheryl Alleyne – drums\, Alex Clarke – tenor sax and clarinet.\nAnd all the way from the USA…\nJinjoo Yoo – piano\, Wayne Wilkinson – guitar \nThe band will play many of Humph’s original compositions and arrangements as well as new pieces composed especially for the tour. \nA travelling exhibition on Humph’s life and times may also accompany the tour\, consisting of a multi-media presentation and visual archive display based on Humph’s writings and journals.
