SUMMARY:8 May: Adrien Brandeis
DESCRIPTION:ADRIEN BRANDEIS is a french jazz pianist and composer (Annecy\, 1992) graduated from the conservatory of Paris. \nIn 2017\, he produced his first album “Euforia“\, which had great recognition and international success. “Euforia” put Adrien Brandeis\, in the spotlight of the Jazz scene\, and led him to be awarded the prestigious Letter One Rising Stars Jazz Award 2018. \nIn 2020\, he wrote his second album “Meetings“\, in quartet. It allows him to move towards a more modern and fresh sound. \nThis album was selected by TSF Jazz Radio as Top 10 Best jazz albums in France. \nIn 2022\, he released in quartet “Siempre más allá” recorded in Mexico. It represents Adrien’s personal tribute to Mexico. In November 2022\, he awarded the UNAC Grand Prize for New Jazz Talent 2022. \nAfter this fruitful experience\, he returned to France at the beginning of 2024 and formed a band with the Guadeloupean drummer Arnaud Dolmen (featured on ‘Meetings’)\, joined by the Cuban (and Parisian) double bass player Felipe Cabrera and two of his compatriots on percussion: Abraham Mansfarroll or Yaroldy Abreu (depending on the track). It’s a quartet that adopts different instrumental formulas as the tracks progress (piano/percussion duo\, piano/bass/drums trio or quintet with the two percussionists). \nIn May 2025\, he released his fourth album\, “RESURGENCE”\, marking his return to the French and European scene.  A record that astonishes us with its musical maturity\, scope\, intensity and diversity. A project served up with deep\, demanding compositions\, performed with a delightful musical expressiveness in a firework of rhythms (cha-cha-cha\, guaguancó\, merengue\, samba…)\, carried by powerful melodies and a wealth of harmonies. \nSeeking new challenges\, he was laureate of the 21st edition of the Film Music Composition Competition: Music for Short Films\, 2025. \nAt 33\, Adrien Brandeis has already presented his music at some of Europe’s biggest jazz festivals (Nice Jazz Festival -France\, Umbria Jazz Festival -Italy)\, also in Asia (Jazzmandu – Nepal\, Kolkata International Jazz Festival -India\, Blue Note\, Shanghai and Beijing -China)\, and in North America (Zacatecas Jazz Festival\, Polanco Jazz Festival\, Irapuato Jazz Festival\, Festival de Música de Morelia -México; San Jose Jazz Festival -USA). \nWebsite : http://adrienbrandeis.com\nFacebook page : https://www.facebook.com/adrienbrandeismusic/\nInstagram page: https://www.instagram.com/adrienbrandeis/?hl=fr \n  \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Yvette Andrewartha presents The Unexpected Serendipitous Gig\, very kindly fund raising for Calstock Arts. \nShe explains below why she has called this The Unexpected Serendipitous Gig! \n‘Because the words ‘unexpected’ and ‘serendipitous’ have come to mind so many times during my on-going journey to becoming a jazz singer. ‘Unexpected’ because singing wasn’t a planned ‘thing’ and ‘serendipitous’ because people and opportunities have arrived at just the right moment to help. So I am going with the flow and enjoying every minute……….. \nThere are so many wonderful songs in the jazz genre and I am looking forward to sharing some of these with you in an evening of jazz standards. I have the wonderful Mojito Jazz Trio to accompany me and I am also joined by the lovely Helen White who will sing and play violin and sax. They are all great musicians who appear regularly in venues around Devon and Cornwall and I am thrilled to be sharing a stage with them. \nWe are looking forward to the gig and it will be an evening of fun and joy. And all in a good cause as there will be a bucket where all donations will go to the lovely Calstock Arts. It will be a good way to kick off the January blues and enjoy some great tunes.’ \nWe look forward to seeing you there

DESCRIPTION:First time at Calstock Arts! Remi Harris is one of the UK’s most exciting\, technically gifted and versatile guitarists. SUMMARY:22 May: Espen Eriksen Trio
DESCRIPTION:Calstock Arts are excited to be included in this prestigious tour\, which includes the far east (S Korea\, China & Hong Kong)\, Norway\, France and Calstock! Ok a  few others in the UK but none west of Bristol. \nEspen Eriksen Trio is one of the most popular piano trios in Europe. With it’s highly melodic and lyrical instrumentals and “less is more” approach\, the trio is often credited for its unique voice within today’s jazz scene by the international press. To quote BBC in their review of the trio’s second album “A wonderfully plaintive jazz record\, abandoned to the lost art of melodic minimalism\, stripped back and beautifully near bare. No smoke and mirrors\, just the graceful chemistry of superb musicians at the top of their game”.  \nEspen Eriksen Trio also has an ongoing collaboration with the British saxophone star Andy Sheppard\, resulting in two studio albums and multiple sold out tours in Europe\, including two concerts at the London Jazz Festival broadcasted by BBC Radio.  \nAfter 17 years\, seven critically acclaimed records and worldwide touring\, the trio is tighter than ever and has reached an almost telepathic level of interplay. And a global audience certainly have embraced the trio’s unique sound built upon a rich repertoire all signed pianist Eriksen. Captivating and lyrical\, often melancholic and uplifting at the same time\, these are all real tunes.  \nSo\, in Jazzwise’s words; get ready for “one of the most unified\, individual and recognizable group sounds in European jazz” \n“Superb musicians at the top of their game”  – BBC \nEspen Eriksen: piano/compositions \nLars Tormod Jenset: double bass \nAndreas Bye: drums \nFor further information and to listen to the trio – click here \n
