6 November: Jean Toussaint Quartet

Grammy-winning Jazz Messenger Jean Toussaint brings his latest project on the road. Toussaint’s new album entitled “Jean Toussaint: Songs for Sisters Brothers and others” reflects on the turbulent years of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Toussaint says;

“The Pandemic caused me to focus on the fragility of life and the fact that we’re here one moment and gone the next. With that in mind I wanted to pay tribute to my wonderful siblings while they were still around to enjoy it so decided to write a collection of songs for that purpose. I also wanted to take the opportunity to pay tribute to other people and places important to my life.

This Project- Initially I’d planned to record a studio album of the project; it’s a group of songs written over the pandemic and use this 17-date tour as an album release tour.

Unfortunately, midway through the planning of the recording I got ill and had to reassess my plans, so I’ve decided to do something even better- That is to record 4 of the 17 tour gigs live and compile a live recording of the project which I will release early next year. I am busy putting the finishing touches on the arrangements of the compositions – it’s an exciting prospect!”
