Thursday 28 November:
Calstock Arts Classics: Anthony Hewitt

An exciting new project for Calstock Arts builds on its fine reputation for classical musical performances enhanced by The Old Chapel’s stunning acoustics.

Calstock Arts Classics is curated by gifted classical pianist, Anthony Hewitt, who gave an outstanding performance as The Olympianist in May 2012. Anthony indulged his other passion by cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats, playing recitals along the way to raise over £13,000 for charity.

The season launches with a performance by Anthony himself. His virtuosic playing has won him many plaudits worldwide, as well as engagements with the National Symphony and Princeton Symphony Orchestras in the USA, and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and Northern Sinfonia in the UK.

His discography includes ‘Protégé’ (Divine Art Records), the first coupling on CD of the Liszt and Reubke Sonatas. This unique recording was described in International Record Review as “magisterial”.

Anthony’s programme will be:

Handel: Keyboard Suite in G Major
Scriabin: Preludes from Op. 11
Ravel: Gaspard de la Nuit
Rachmaninov: 2 Preludes
Chopin: Preludes (selection)
Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition
