Thursday 13 June:
Alan Barnes and David Newton

A remarkable double bill featuring two key figures from the British jazz scene.

Alan Barnes and David Newton began playing duets together thirty five years ago and in that time have recorded over a dozen albums (three of which feature the duo format). Between them they have won the British Jazz Awards an astonishing thirty five times.

‘Barnes is a brilliant multi-instrumentalist who’s at home with the jazz repertoire of 30s and 40s swing, and the subsequent “modern” jazz style of bebop. He’s one of the UK’s key jazz figures.’ John Fordham, The Guardian.

‘There is always more to Newton’s piano playing than first meets the ear. The surface may be smooth, but there are all kinds of clever, subtle things going on beneath.’ Dave Gelly.
