Sunday 9 July:
Sunday Sessions – K’antu – Songs and Dances of the Renaissance

This popular ensemble returns to Calstock Arts, exploring the less-trodden territories of early music. Combining elements of folk and world music with historically-informed techniques, the music of Spain and South America seems like the obvious starting place – hence the name K’antu, referring to an ancient style of Peruvian and Bolivian music and dance.

Currently promoting their second album, Dancing & the Divine, they have recently featured on BBC Radio 3’s In Tune during their residency at London’s South Bank Centre.

Making their name on the international stage, K’antu was selected to open the Göttingen International Handel Festival’s Historische Reihe and have toured Hungary, Romania and Egypt in recent times.

The ensemble features an array of beautiful replicas of historic instruments, including Renaissance Recorders and Drum, Baroque Violin and Guitar, and a Peruvian Charango.
“Terrifically interesting and enjoyable…their performances are joyously individual”. Early Music Today magazine.
