What’s On

Sunday 24 May
Thomas Bowes – Bach Pilgrimage

Thomas Bowes is a vastly experienced and highly accomplished musician. He is one of the UK’s most versatile and accomplished violinists – as a soloist, chamber musician, concertmaster and artistic director. Thomas has made multiple recordings and has performed with and lead some of the very best orchestras in the world. The Bach Pilgrimage project has seen him play in churches & smaller venues all around the UK. Bach sonatas & partitas will form the main focus of the evening with some additional pieces by Ysaye.

An audience member once approached him after a solo performance with tears in his eyes. Thomas wrote of this encounter, “I now know that this music – penned some 300 years ago as a response to the sudden loss of a beloved wife – will always (if I do my job properly) bring forth such a response. Why? Because despite its great craft and undeniable appeal to the classical music aficionado, it tells an intensely human story. A story of loss, of aloneness: but a story too of redemption and love. Sei Solo is full of the anguished and inconsolable, but also full of light and perhaps above all, it is full of the dance.”

“ the iconic Chaconne in Partita No 2 is given a profound reading, it is just one of a succession of miracles” (Gramophone Magazine)

We are excited and very lucky to have Thomas here – this has been made possible by the ongoing support of Carn to Cove.
