Saturday 19 October:
A Gallery Bar Saturday Special with The Butter Thieves plus guests

A break with tradition this month, as we offer a Gallery Bar Special on a Saturday.

The Butter Thieves are a Cornish folksy rustic acoustic quintet who met whilst working at the Eden Project, and formed a band. One thing led to another and they are now performing at events and festivals throughout the south west including Port Eliot, the Wadebridge Folk Festival – and most recently, the Bread Riots in St Austell. (Did they steal the butter)?

The band is Jenny Crowe on accordion and vocals, Jo Ballard on violin and vocals, largerphone (their very own instrument) and shakey egg (same). Plus vocals from Jane Spurr, along with the two Daves on guitar, washboard and vocals.

So how do they sound? An eclectic mixture of traditional Cornish folk with their own compositions in close harmony singing, influenced by such diversity as Fleet Foxes, Mumford and Sons, Gillian Welch and Kate Rusby.

In addition, guests will include accapella trio The One Thing, featuring Emma Mansfield, Choir Leader of Lost in Song in Lostwithial (and incidentally author of The Little Book Of Cornwall and The Little Book Of the Pasty) along with Jane Staffari and Emily Foulkes.

Also musician, composer and teacher Anna Batson, plus The Lovely Things from Gunnislake featuring the voice of Jo Tyler accompanied by Jonty Marks on vocals and mandolin.

Free entry, chatty atmosphere, donations to the band would be very welcome.

Doors and bar 7.00pm, music and more from 8.00pm – a little earlier than usual as there’s a lot to fit in.
