Saturday 1 March:
Jim Causley and Lukas Drinkwater

Five times BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominee Jim Causley is passionate about traditional song and particularly that of his native Devon. He has recorded with Waterson:Carthy, Show of Hands and David Rotheray of Beautiful South fame, as well as touring with Steve Knightley and Kate Rusby.

Jim has recorded an album of poems by his distant relative to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the death of this celebrated Cornish poet. Jim has set to music a diverse selection of Causley’s poems to give the audience a taster of the poet’s great body of work. The critically acclaimed album ‘Cyprus Well’ was recorded live in Causley’s house in Launceston, Cornwall and many of the tracks feature Causley’s own piano. Jim aims to bring wider attention to Causley’s poems and raise awareness of the Charles Causley Trust and their mission to preserve Causley’s house as a writers’ retreat. Jim will be joined on stage by talented guitarist Lukas Drinkwater.

Jim is renowned for his warm and jovial stage presence and his rich singing voice has been likened to the fruitiest of ciders!

‘One of the finest, most easy-going singers in the British folk revival’. Robin Denselow, The Guardian.
